It’s combine training time and many people are getting prepared for the vertical jump. When training for this specific movement there are many avenues to obtain your goals, how to narrow it down is the key. Does the athlete need strength or elasticity (power)?

The Test

This simple calculator from Cal Dietz will help you decipher on what to start focusing on.

go HERE

Once you click on it, there are very simple directions to follow. It basically tests your “Counter Jump” (start from up and down) vs. your “Static Jump” (start from 1/4 squat position).

Clearly if your counter jump is similar to your static jump, you’ll NEED to work on elasticity/power. So if you’re interested developing yourself and trying to decipher on what you need to focus on (depending on phase) I’d suggest giving this a shot. And make sure to check out other parts of the site (XLAthlete.com) Coach Dietz did a great job on it.
