A SIMPLE Concept of Tensegrity

Buckminster Fuller

Before I move into the concept of Tensegrity from Buckminster Fuller, I have to say that Tom Myers is a GENIUS, if you get a chance to watch him speak, GO! I know some questionable “Gurus” out there love him, which makes me question it a bit…but after reading his book and seeing him speak, I have to say that he definitely knows his stuff.

In either case make sure to get his book below:

The Concept of Tensegrity:

While the concept of tensegirty is very complicated, the take home message here (for fitness) is that the fascia really determines the positioning of the bones, in essence the bones are floating and being held up by the fascia.

In the above video- the fascia is representing by the tethers, if one of the tethers were to break, the sticks (representation of your bone) would fall. This is one reason why it’s important to not only stretch but to do fascial stretching and fascial manipulation via foam roller, stick, ball, osteopath, etc…

Fascial Stretch Therapy

The concept of Tensegrity (for anatomy) also explains why if the trainer was to work on the tissue quality of your hips hips, back pain may start to diminish. Simply put, if your hips are tight this could be causing a pull in your back. We’ll go over this down the road, along with the concept of “Upper/Lower Crossed Syndrome”.
