The thoracic spine is an interesting area of the body vertebral column. It’s mean to have flexion, extension, and a rotation. With that said, as we get older and life wears on us, it’s common to get a this:
A nice hunched over posture thanks to working at a desk, sitting down, hunching over while eating etc… it start to become habitual.
To counter this I’d suggest to first to try this mobility exercise, you’ll see Jame going through the movement and hit his end Range Of Motion (ROM), but with a little cueing you’ll see what happens.
Key Notes:
- Dont’ push through the movement, RELAX and let it fall down.
- If you have shoulder impingement I’d be very careful with this rotation.
- Rotation should focused on the thoracic (upper back) on the lumbar (lower back), meaning don’t compensate.
Give a shot and let us know how it went!
