Around the New Years time we posted the first part of  “10 Reasons to Hire a Personal Trainer “. In the post we discussed the staggered statistics that the #1 New Years resolution of 2012 was to “Lose Weight”, of that population 8% of the people actually achieved their goal.

We’re now 1/4 of the way done with 2014 and I hope that you’re still staying strong. If you need a little motivation hiring a personal trainer can be a good investment for your health and time. So let’s jump into part 2:

Safety

NYC personal Training

As a NYC personal trainer I believe it’s great that many people now want to exercise and build lean muscle or get “toned”. Exercises like squats have become synonymous with building a badass booty, unfortunately I see more people doing them incorrectly than correctly. This can lead to an injury that’ll limit your exercise routine or even worse, put you out the gym for a few weeks or months!

This is one of the many reasons it’s so beneficial to hire a personal trainer. A qualified personal trainer will ensure that you’re doing the exercise correctly , that you’re prepared for the exercise and intensity,  and if the exercise bothers you the personal trainer will find a safer alternative to keep you moving in the right path.

Structured Program

Another benefit of hiring a personal trainer is having a structured program to lead you to your goal. Just because you workout doesn’t mean that you’re moving in the right direction. Meaning, if the goal is performance based, then the personal trainer or sports performance coach should ensure that the athlete goes through a proper structured program to better prepare them for their respective sport.

Example:

Football Player Y is a running back that was told to gain weight, increase speed, and get stronger.

So football player Y runs ¼ mile sprints, lift weights within the 5-10 rep range, and eats cleanly all summer long. There’s nothing wrong with that, per se, you’re working out and it’s doing you some good. But a qualified personal trainer or sports performance coach will take the programming deeper. The personal trainer should have you go through a preparation cycle, to ensure your body is better prepared to handle heavier loads, then a few other blocks building your overall strength, peak power, sprint mechanics, various an/aerobic capacities (depending on the needs), and then peak you.

The point being is that there is a LOT of thought and experience needed to prepare a strong program to peak you or to obtain your goal. Simply going workout to workout may get you into shape but will most likely not take you to a higher level for the amount of work placed.

Training Tailored for YOU

Hiring a personal trainer will ensure that the workout and program is tailored specifically for you. Since I just went on a rant above about programming I won’t go too far into details here. :p Just know that picking up a program from an article or online fitness site may not always be the best option for you. You’ll have to take into consideration if you’re prepared for the program and whom the program was originally built for. Say the program was built for a bodybuilder that juices and expects you to train x6 a week, yet you can only do x4 a week or say you can do x6. You still most likely will not be able to recover as quickly as a person that’s using performance-enhancing drugs.

No More Worries

The other fun part of having a personal trainer is now leaving ALL the preparation up to the personal trainer. We have a enough to worry about in New York City, we shouldn’t have to add staying up late doing research on what type of warm ups to do, how to foam roll, food prep, squat etc… , what type of diet to focus on, what’s the most effective way to ______,  and so on. The NYC personal trainer will be there to not only answer your questions effectively but also help provide a support system.  And if the scope is out of the personal trainers practice, then the trainer will have a great person to refer you to, so no researching who the best chiropractor, massage therapist, dietician, etc… It’s nice to have such a great network right?

Because you CAN Afford an NYC Personal Trainer

One of the biggest obstacles for anything is price. Personal training can be expensive but so can buying a $4 cup of coffee, eating lunch and dinner out x6 days a week- thanks to seamless web :),  a new outfit every month, and so on. Play around with your budget and you’ll be surprised how easily you can find the cash, by making a few adjustments to your typical routine. And soon enough you’ll be looking better in the clothes you already own AND you’ll be eating better by not eating out so much.

A double whammy = split the cost with your friend. Now there’s no excuses …that’s win-win there!

Stay strong,
